Dealing with Stress

On the most recent podcast that we recorded, which you can find at our NLPulse website, http://www.nlpulse.com, we talked about stress and how to deal with it. Here are a few tips you can use:

  1. Focus on breathing exercises or other exercises. These can help regulate your body and ground you to the present.
  2. Talk to someone! The more that you talk about the stress in your life, the less power and control it can have over you.
  3. Stay busy and distracted. Use your coping skills, hobbies, work, and other activities to keep your mind engaged.
  4. Check your sleep schedule, routine, and the amount of sleep that you are getting. Change things up if your routine isn’t working, and get more sleep if you need to.
  5. Write! Use a journal, gratitude journal, blog, or other techniques to get things out.
  6. Think positively, and have a positive outlook. Look at things using your facts rather than the feelings that may be going on in your head.
  7. Meditation. Yoga or other styles can help ground you. There are many examples of techniques that you can find on youtube
  8. Define the worst case scenario of the situation that is causing stress. Maybe this will put things in perspective.

Remember too, that it isn’t just about dealing with the symptoms, it is also important to try to find the root cause of the stress so that maybe you can get past it.
